A Brief Discussion on Color Technology (Part 2)

The CIE standard light sources are represented by fluorescent lamps; F2 stands for cold white fluorescent lamp (4200°K); F7 represents wide-band daylight fluorescent lamp (6500°K); F11 represents narrow-band white fluorescent lamp (4200°K).

Similar to the CIELAB color space, in addition to using standard coordinates to represent the brightness, color, and hue angle of the color, the Cartesian coordinates can also be used instead.
Metamerism (Color Metamorphism)
When two colors appear the same under a certain light source, but show different colors under another light source, this phenomenon is called "same color but different spectra".
Opacity (Transparency)
The coverage index can reflect the covering ability of the coating-type ink on the substrate. If the coverage is higher, it indicates that the coating or ink is less likely to be affected by the color of the substrate or to change in color due to the coating or ink itself.
Reflectance curve / Spectral curve (Reflection Spectrum Curve)
A chart depicting the reflectivity of an object to different wavelengths of light.
Reflectance (Reflectivity)
The percentage of light reflected from the surface of an object can be measured using a spectrophotometer. The reflectivity of the object can be determined at different intervals along the visible spectrum. If the visible spectrum is plotted on the x-axis and the reflectivity on the y-axis, a spectral curve of the object's color can be drawn.
Spectrophotometer (Spectrophotometer)
A measuring instrument that measures the reflection or transmission characteristics of light waves as they pass through an object, and represents the measurement results as spectral data.
Specular Reflection Excluded (SCE, SPEX, Ex)
When using an integrating sphere spectrophotometer to measure an object, the mirror reflection of the object will not be measured. Therefore, when excluding the data of mirror reflection from the measurement, the instrument will take into account the influence of the object's surface texture on the color.
Specular included (SCI, SPIN, In) (including specular reflection)
When using an integrating sphere instrument to measure an object, the specular reflection of the object will also be measured. Therefore, when measuring including the specular reflection data, the instrument will only measure the color data of the object's pigments, and will ignore the surface texture.
Strength (Force)
The intensity is the measurement of the difference between the colors.
Tolerance (tolerance)
The acceptable difference between the standard measurement and the sample measurement. (See Delta error)
Whiteness (White Degree)
Brightness is a measure of how white a color is, and it is widely used in the printing and textile industries.
Yellowness (Yellow Tint)
The yellowness refers to the deviation of a color from the standard white, and is widely used in the plastic industry.
