Five steps to complete font design

What is the foundation of an information society? Text, pictures, sounds and so on are all carriers of information, which are disseminated through the vast platform of the Internet! Nowadays, print advertisements, resumes, plans, recruitment advertisements, PPT presentations, etc., all require the producers to strive for perfection to hit the mark with the target readers, and all need magnificent fonts to express their feelings and intentions. Especially in the design of print advertisements, a creative advertising font design can evoke people's boundless imagination and achieve unexpected advertising effects.

Those who are observant can notice that the font libraries in computers are adding more fonts every year, and these font designs come in great use when applied to different occasions. In fact, the design of this font also has its own tricks. Just like ancient calligraphers created one calligraphy font after another, a font is also the patent of an art. If you can write a unique and good font, it may be developed into a font with a name, used by more people, and eventually become a one-of-a-kind "so-and-so style" in the font library.

In 1987, Lu Huaping, a 25-year-old movable type designer from the Shanghai Printing Technology Research Institute, participated in the font design competition of the Japanese Morisawa Font Company with a clerical script font of over a hundred characters and won the first prize. To this day, no one has been able to match him in China. Later, Lu Huaping drew over eight thousand Japanese kanji characters for Senze. This set of fonts was named "Lu Li", and Senze paid the author 14 US dollars per character. It can be seen that font design is also a highly valuable artistic creation.

The process of font creation can be roughly divided into the following five steps:

One: The designer uses a marker pen to draw several basic strokes that make up Chinese characters, such as horizontal, vertical, left-falling, dot, and fold, and traces the shapes of the strokes with a fountain pen.

After the basic stroke design is confirmed, the designer starts to create individual characters on the draft paper based on the pre-determined strokes. There are 810 such single characters, all of which need to be drawn stroke by stroke by the designer.

Three: The designer places the scanned image into a professional font grid and creates the font on the computer according to the stroke lines. The draft of over eight hundred characters is designed stroke by stroke and line by line in this way. During this process, the designer dealt with the deficiencies of the original draft and found solutions.

Four: Designers extract corresponding components from the brush library and component library, and through further design, create new characters. This process is a combination of human and machine in creating characters.

After the first batch of 810 characters is completed, the remaining 5,953 characters need to be created with the help of the team. Each character needs to be repeatedly revised by the designer, with manual marking of revision suggestions and repeated revisions until no flaws can be found.
