Learning from Others: A Comprehensive View of Luxury Packaging Management Abroad (with Pictures)

Many countries around the world have reached a consensus on "how to manage luxury packaging" and have gained a lot of experience in dealing with it. These experiences are of great significance for our country to effectively control and reduce... XML:NAMESPACE PREFIX = Bstyle="BACKGROUND-COLOR /> Packaging waste can be regarded as "a stone from another mountain". What kind of market does the luxurious packaging that makes Chinese people spend "unnecessary money" have abroad? How do foreign countries formulate laws and regulations to manage luxury packaging?

In the United States, deceptive packaging is strictly prohibited

In the United States, not only federal laws prohibit deceptive packaging, but each state has also enacted its own laws regarding packaging. For instance, California strictly prohibits the use of unnecessary fillers in packaging boxes, and the fillers must not increase the volume of the packaging. Connecticut stipulates that the packaging of goods must not mislead consumers' understanding of their quality and quantity, and the quality of the goods inside the packaging must not be lower than the standards set by the relevant government departments for such products. Minnesota only allows packaging to vary in the following circumstances: inevitable weight errors in the course of good business practice; The error in the bottle capacity caused by inevitable manufacturing difficulties. In New Jersey, it is stipulated that when there are changes to the packaging content such as the net weight, volume and quantity of food of the goods, the manufacturer must inform the consumer in a prominent position on the packaging for at least six months.

Germany: Producers have the responsibility for recycling

Germans often exchange small gifts with each other, which are usually simply wrapped in exquisite wrapping paper. If the received gift is not in use for the time being, the packaging will not be damaged so that it can be given to others in the future. In the author's impression, Germans, who focus on practical results and dislike extravagance and waste, do not have the problem of "excessive packaging". Their packaging habits are closely linked to environmental protection concepts.

In June 1991, Germany promulgated the "Act on the Prevention and Utilization of Packaging Waste", with the aim of "avoiding or reducing the environmental impact of packaging waste", and the principle is the "producer responsibility principle", that is, producers are responsible for the recycling and utilization of waste. According to Article 12, the quantity and volume of packaging should be restricted as much as possible to meet the necessary safety and hygiene requirements of the packaged products.

The packaging law, which has been revised four times so far, has pushed Germany to the forefront of the world in packaging waste management and established the world's first packaging waste recycling and reuse system. In 1993, in accordance with Germany's packaging law, the European Union also formulated its own packaging guidelines.

France: There is no market for hardcover goods

Luxurious packaging that makes Chinese people spend "unnecessary money" is hard to find a market in France. In the eyes of the French, apart from the basic functions of protecting and explaining products, packaging should also pay more attention to environmental friendliness, safety and economy. Even expensive perfumes are nothing more than a piece of colored paper and a paper bag. If you give someone fine wine as a gift, it's just like tying a colorful paper bow on the bottle, which is both elegant and environmentally friendly.

While developing the packaging industry, France also pays attention to the environmental protection treatment of waste, which is a long-term strategy for developing a sustainable and circular economy. As early as 1975, France formulated its own regulations on the disposal of packaging waste based on the relevant laws and regulations of the European Community at that time. In April 1992, it issued new regulations on this basis, stipulating that producers, sellers and purchasers of packaging materials should jointly bear the responsibility for the recycling and reprocessing of packaging materials, and "those who produce more packaging waste will have to bear more costs for waste disposal."

According to statistics, France generates 5 million tons of packaging waste every year, of which nearly 52% can be recycled and reused.

Japan: The retail industry needs to improve packaging

Many small commodities in Japan often give people the impression of exquisite packaging, but overly large or luxurious packaging is not common. Since April this year, the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry has also implemented the "Container Packaging Regeneration Law Emission Inhibition Promotion Measures", starting from the overall consumption of packaging materials, to control the gradual reduction of packaging.

According to regulations, retail enterprises are obligated to formulate plans every year to improve product packaging and reduce the amount of packaging materials used. The specific contents include charging for the packaging of goods; Reduce the consumption of plastic bags and advocate the promotion of "eco-friendly hand-held bags" that can be used for a long time. The packaging of the goods strives to reduce weight and volume. Use packaging containers of appropriate size; Increase bulk and mass sales; Promote simple packaging, etc. In addition, enterprises that use more than 50 tons of packaging containers annually must regularly report on the progress of their packaging reduction plans.

We have to admit that we are not yet perfect in terms of packaging. A scientific and reasonable packaging management system also needs improvement. There is still a long way to go to achieve the management of commodity packaging.
