The common layout styles used in sample design are basically the 13 types mentioned in this article. If designers can master these, it will be very important for sample design.
Full-page type: As the name suggests, full-page type means that the image covers the entire page. It mainly uses the image as the main message, and the visual communication is direct and powerful. The text is arranged on the top, bottom, left, right, or the middle (side and center) of the image. The sample design of full-page type easily gives people a sense of elegance and spaciousness. It is a common form used in commercial advertisements.
2. Grid Layout: The grid layout is a standardized and rational division method. Common grids include vertical full-width columns, double columns, three columns, and four columns, etc. Generally, vertical column divisions are more common. The combined grid layout styles are both rational and organized, as well as lively and flexible. If images and text are arranged and configured strictly according to the grid proportions, the sample design with this structure can give people a sense of rigor, harmony, and rationality.
3. Vertical Split Type: The vertical split type divides the entire layout into two sections - the upper and the lower. Images (either single or multiple) are placed in the upper or lower section, while text is placed in the other section. This layout style gives the image section a sense of emotion and vitality, while the text section is rational and static.
4. Left-right division type: The entire layout is divided into two sections on the left and right, with text and images respectively. When the two sections form a strong contrast, it will cause a visual imbalance. This is a problem related to visual habits (left-right symmetry), and thus is not as natural as the top-bottom division type in terms of visual flow. However, as long as the dividing line is blurred or the text is repeated and interspersed on both sides, the left and right images and text will become naturally harmonious.
5. Axial Type: Arrange the graphics horizontally or vertically, and place the text at the top/bottom or left/right. A horizontally arranged layout gives a sense of order, tranquility, serenity and depth. A vertically arranged layout, on the other hand, will give a strong sense of movement.
6. Curved Style: The pictures and text are arranged in a curved pattern, creating a sense of rhythm and cadence.
7. Inclined Type: The main image or multiple images on the layout are arranged in an inclined manner, creating a strong sense of movement and disorder in the layout, making it highly eye-catching.
8. Symmetrical Type: Symmetry can be classified as absolute symmetry and relative symmetry. Generally, the relative symmetry approach is adopted to avoid being overly formal. Most often, the layout is left-right symmetrical. The symmetrical design evokes a sense of order and rationality.
9. Centered Type: The centered layout creates a visual focal point, making it more prominent. The centered type can be further divided into three types: directly occupying the center of the layout with an independent and well-defined image. Centripetal Type: The movement of visual elements converging towards the center of the layout. Centrifugal Type: Similar to a stone thrown into water, it produces a series of outward spreading arcs.
10. Triangle: Among the basic shapes such as circles, rectangles, and triangles, the equilateral triangle (pyramid shape) has the highest factor of safety and stability.
11. Parallel Arrangement: Arrange the same or different images in the same size but with different positions. The layout formed by this arrangement has the meaning of comparison and explanation, giving the originally complex and noisy layout a sense of order, tranquility, harmony and rhythm.
12. Free style: The composition is irregular and random. It gives readers a lively and cheerful feeling.
13. Quadrilateral Layout: Graphics are arranged on the four corners of the layout and on the diagonal lines connecting the corners, giving a sense of formality and standardization.
Any type of layout, if properly utilized, can bring more highlights to the sample design. Therefore, when designing, designers should think more and try more, and choose the best and most suitable layout design type!
