Golden Eagle Group Bracell Announced The Construction Of A 2.8 Million Ton Pulp Mill in Brazil To Focus On The Production Of Dissolved Pulp

Bracell, a company owned by the Royal Golden Eagle Group of Indonesia (RGE), has confirmed the construction of its sixth large pulp mill in Bataguassu, Brazil. The merger of the newly formed enterprise with that of the already announced Agua Clara strengthens the state's position as one of the main hubs of the cellulose industry in the country.

The Bataguassu plant will focus on the production of specialty dissolved pulp with an annual capacity of 2.8 million tons. The project requires an investment of $4 billion (BRL 25 billion) and will create 10,000 jobs during the construction phase and 3,000 permanent positions during operation. The facility will be located 15 km from the city limits and the environmental permitting process is already underway and is expected to be completed by February 2025.

Eduardo Riedel, Governor of Mato Grosso do Sul, stressed the importance of the project for the state's economy and sustainable development. "We participated in a business forum between Brazil and Indonesia, where we agreed on specific points for the construction of the new plant. These investments will further strengthen our economy and sustainability." 'he said.

Akira Otsubo, the former mayor of Bataguassu, is one of the main organizers of the project. In September 2024, he hosted Bracell representatives to coordinate installation details. "Bataguazu is strategically located and will be part of the Bioceanic route, which further strengthens the city's position and attracts a lot of investment to our region," he stressed.

With the completion of the new plant, Mato Grosso do Sul further consolidates its position as a benchmark in the cellulose industry, expanding its global market share and contributing to regional economic development.
