288,800 Packaging Enterprises Join Hands To Accelerate The Green Transformation Of China's Express Delivery Packaging

The State Post Bureau disclosed at a recent press conference that the promotion of green packaging in the postal industry has achieved remarkable results. Electronic shipping labels and reusable transfer bags have been basically covered across the board. In terms of reducing material consumption, the number of packaging layers and the thickness of packaging bags have decreased by over 50%, the width of the tape has been reduced by 25%, and the application of intelligent packing algorithms has further reduced material usage by nearly 20%; the recycling packaging usage rate in the same-city express delivery sector has reached 10%.
The packaging recycling system has been continuously improved, with over 800 million cardboard boxes being recycled and reused each year. In addition, four enterprises including the postal service have piloted the application of circular packaging in scenarios such as fresh food cold chain and government documents in more than 20 cities, further promoting the implementation of the resource recycling model.
Modern information technology is providing strong impetus for the green and low-carbon development of the postal industry. Distribution centers are accelerating their intelligent upgrades, and technologies such as photovoltaic power generation and intelligent sorting are being implemented more rapidly. Hydrogen energy and clean energy vehicles are widely used. As of now, the total area of photovoltaic installations in the postal industry has reached 4.48 million square meters, and more than 1,000 green distribution centers and over 12,500 green post offices have been built. The number of new energy and clean energy vehicles has exceeded 75,000.
According to the professional version of Tianyancha data, currently there are over 2.888 million packaging-related enterprises in operation and still existing in China. Among them, since 2025, approximately 459,000 new related enterprises have been registered. From the registration trend, the number of packaging-related enterprises registered has been increasing year by year in the past five years, and reached its peak in 2024.
In terms of regional distribution, the packaging-related enterprises in Guangdong Province, Zhejiang Province and Jiangsu Province rank among the top in the country, with the number exceeding 474,000, 393,000 and 309,000 respectively; Shanghai and Shandong Province follow closely, ranking among the top five in terms of the number of enterprises.
